718 was founded in 2008 with me building bikes in my backyard. Our Shop Build program is the evolution of that idea of working collaboratively with our customers.

Basically, its as simple as filling out a 2 minute form (below). Submitting this form allows me to generate a Draft Parts List for your review. This is on online and shared document, and a process that we have used since 2008 when designing and building custom bikes with our customers. This process is free, and comes with no obligation whatsoever.
The Draft Parts List include a picture, description and cost of EVERY part that will be hung in your bike…with transparent pricing and the ability to share with anyone in your life who you might want to have take a look.

Each bike is built individually to order by me (Joe, Owner of 718), with as much customization as you are looking for. Looking to substitute parts…customization is our middle name…”718 Customization Cyclery”. Want to add a rack? Sure! Want that Brooks saddle? Yes!
There are a few things you have to think about in terms of building that perfect bike for you. After 12 years, and many hundreds of builds, I feel we have distilled many of these complexities down to a few key decisions.
Question 1: Do you want gears?
Question 2: Do you want a flat handlebar for more comfortable city riding, or do you want drop handlebars for all-day comfort?
Question 3: Do you have any thought about disc brakes (yes/no/my friend says I should get them)?
Question 4: How tall are you?
Not to oversimplify, but there is alot to be learned from these few questions, and this have proved to be a great launching point.

Frames
We have access to many frames and frame manufacturers. Here is a Live Inventory of the frame we currently have in stock. Please note that we do not sell frames separately at this time.
718 Shop Build Options
These build can stand alone as bikes that will last for many years, or can serve as a baseline to design your perfect ride (all prices tentative/in-progress). Prices for a single speed is around $1100…geared bikes start just around $2200. We use frames from our great partners such as Surly, All-City, Kona, Salsa and Soma, to name a few.
718 Shop Build Add-Ons and Customizations
The sky is the limit when you are in control of determining exactly what you want your bike to be. Some options include:

All 718 Shop Builds are registered with 529 Garage for free. 529 Garage is the largest bike registry in the world with more than 1,700,000 searchable bikes, and is trusted by law enforcement across North America. Learn more here. At pick-up, new bike owner wil be given a small sticker shield with registration number to affix to their bike if they want.
